Austin Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery is Leland and Wilmington’s premier oral surgery practice. Helmed by experienced and knowledgeable oral surgeon Dr. Mark C. Austin, DDS, and managed by caring administrative staff, Austin Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery offers a number of surgical procedures to area residents, including corrective jaw surgery, wisdom tooth removal, bone grafting procedures, dental implants, and much more.
Dr. Austin graduated with honors from the UNC School of Dentistry in 2001, after which he decided to focus his practice on oral surgery. He underwent a two-year general practice residency and a four-year oral and maxillofacial surgery residency to gain the skills he needed to help patients. Since then, he’s risen high in his career as both a Diplomate and Fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.
For Leland and Wilmington area patients who are missing teeth, dental implants provide the most effective, long-lasting, and functional means of replacing the teeth. By screwing the implant into the jawbone and attaching a prosthesis, Dr. Austin provides his patients with a solution that preserves bone, improves chewing and speaking, and gives patients a natural-looking appearance.
Wisdom teeth are a set of extra molars in the back of the mouth. For most Leland and Wilmington patients, leaving these teeth in the mouth can cause pain, infection, and crowding of the teeth. Wisdom teeth extractions with Dr. Austin are swift and painless, especially with the option to choose IV sedation during the procedure.
After Leland and Wilmington patients have been missing teeth for a while, the jawbone naturally starts to deteriorate. Over time, this can lead to disturbing changes in facial appearance and make it difficult to get dental implants. Bone grafting corrects the problem by rebuilding the jaw to improve its density and make it strong enough to support implants.
If patients are missing an entire arch of teeth, getting a dental implant for every missing tooth can be cumbersome and expensive. That is why Dr. Austin has the option for teeth-in-a-day. This revolutionary implant technique requires just four implants to support an entire row of teeth in the upper or lower jaw and can be completed in one session.
Deciding on an oral surgeon is not a simple task, which is why Dr. Austin is proud to offer reviews from previous patients to help newcomers ease their fears.
In addition to the above services, Dr. Austin also provides numerous other services, such as PRP treatment, tooth extractions, and corrective jaw surgery. He’ll work one-on-one with every patient to determine what treatments best fit their needs.
